The threat from North Korea: how dangerous is it?
North Korea threatens the world every year, and the threats are getting bigger and bigger. They have launched many missiles, they carry out many nuclear weapon tests. Many people say that these threats are targeting the USA. Do you think those threats are dangerous for all of us?
North Korea has an intercontinental missile program which has the potential to reach the mainland United States. On 4 July 2017, Pyongyang said it had carried out its first successful test on an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). It said the Hwasong-14 could hit “any part of the world”, but initial US estimates put the range as shorter than that, and also US military described it as an intermediate-range missile, but a number of US experts said they believed the missile could reach the US state of Alaska. On 28 July 2017, North Korea carried out its second and latest ICBM test, with the missile reaching and altitude of about 3000 km and landing in the sea off Japan.
In our opinion, these threats are not dangerous because we think they are not going to be successful.
First of all, if war occurs, the USA will launch many missiles and political power in North Korea will collapse. The North Korean government will collapse. If they start a war, they have more things to lose.
Secondly, North Korea doesn’t have many supplies. Since many countries are against North Korea, most countries have stopped giving supplies. So, they don’t even have supplies of basics such as oils and rice. They can’t win a war with this lack of supplies.
To summarize, we think North Korea’s threats are not dangerous because if they incite war, they will get more missiles from many countries, and they don’t have enough food for their own soldiers. In addition, they will know that they will lose power after a war. North Korea is barking up the wrong tree now.
