What Is Artificial Intelligence And Does It Outperform The Human Brain?

In recent decades, AI has become a buzzword – a political tool to stoke fear in the uninformed. But what truly is artificial intelligence? How does it work? And why was it created? Many believe that it could replace humans in the workplace, while others trust in the fragile goodwill of AI and its developers – citing the numerous benefits it brings. The only way to find out is to wait and see its development as language models like ChatGPT and generalized AI become more inculcated into our lives. However, at the moment, artificial intelligence remains a complex mystery.

What is AI, really?

Artificial Intelligence is simply a set of algorithms that work and think like a human. Despite that, this is only true for some AIs like AGI [Artificial General Intelligence]. AI can do advanced things - just like humans - such as analyzing data, understanding natural language, recognizing patterns, solving problems, and even making its own decisions.

What are the different types of AI?

There are many types of AI in the world. For example, ChatGPT, which is an AI language model, uses machine learning to predict the most likely next word in a sentence based on the previous entry work by learning the probabilities of words or sequences of words in each language. Language models determine the probability of the next word by analyzing the text in data and feeding it through algorithms that create rules for the context in natural language. Another example would be Narrow AI, Narrow AI refers to the AI systems that are designed to perform specific tasks or a set of closely related tasks. Unlike General AI, which aims to replicate human intelligence and perform any task that a human being can do, Narrow AI is limited in scope. It operates under a set of rules and cannot exhibit the same level of understanding as a human.

Is AI good or bad?

AI has shown that it isn't necessarily good or bad. Generally, it can be used as a tool for both beneficial and harmful purposes, it depends on how it is used and developed.

AI has shown that it has the potential to provide healthcare and wellbeing. Conversely, AI has also shown that it can cause job losses which is also a concern to some of the tech communities.

The History Of AI

A lot of us have wondered how has AI started or when it was made? The creation of AI started in 1950. When AI was created, it was first called, "Computer Machinery and Intelligence", which eventually developed into artificial intelligence which most of us use today for asking questions, finding definitions of words, and other things.

Should we trust AI?

AI can make mistakes just like humans. For example, a self-driving car {which is a car that can drive itself to the location that you want to go to} can mistake a white car for the clouds in the sky which can result in your car crashing. With current models, there is a 50% chance of this happening. For AI to be seen as trustworthy, it needs to recognize those mistakes before it is too late.

AI can also be used for good deeds such as diagnosing diseases and helping to reduce energy consumption – which definitely improves public perception.

Will AI Ever Replace Humanity?

Given the rapid development of AI language models like ChatGPT and Google’s newly released Gemini, some may wonder if these systems can replace humans altogether. However, many tech experts aren’t too worried about this happening any time soon. So, at the moment, humans should not be worrying about AI taking over the world.

How Has AI Affected The World?

AI has affected our world in many different ways. For example, AI has improved healthcare by providing better diagnosis, treatment and research. AI has enhanced data management by helping companies analyze and use data effectively. AI has also improved navigation by showing accurate maps and much more.

Conclusion

Over everything we have discussed, research suggests that AI will not replace humanity but will be used for assistance and other positive good deeds.
