Posh Pets - The most expensive dog breeds in the world

The Tibetan Mastiff

The Tibetan Mastiff is a large Tibetan dog breed. Originating with the nomadic cultures of Tibet, China, India, Mongolia and Nepal, it is used by local tribes of Tibetans to protect sheep from wolves, leopards, bears, large mustelids, and tigers. Tibetan Mastiffs are large guardians with strong temperaments they are very friendly and perfect for children. They have a thick coat which can more easily harbour fleas and mites, so you must wash it quite often and comb it. But thankfully health issues don’t pop up as often in this breed. There original price is about $1.5 million. Lion or dog?

The Löwchen

The löwchen is another posh and expensive dog breed with a long history. The name itself means, "little lion" in German although I think that the Tibetan mastiff is more like a lion. They are the rarest

dogs in the world. In 1973 there were only 65 registered examples of the breed. Even today, the breed generally has fewer than a few hundred new registrations each year worldwide. The rarity of the löwchen will fetch upwards to $10 00 dollars! The löwchens can come in all colours, including brown, that allow for dark eyes and nose. There cote is very long and flowing, thankfully they don’t shed. Löwchens are perfect dog breeds for families with children’s because they are very friendly, smart and playful.

The Saluki

The Saluki, also known as Persian Greyhound, also known as the royal dog of Egypt is a hunt dog that uses mostly his amazing sight to hunt. They often do lure coursing (a sport for dogs that involves

chasing a mechanically operated lure). Saluki’s have been good friends to mankind ever since the time of Pharaohs in ancient Egypt. It was not until 1840, that the Salukis were first brought to England. The Saluki is a friendly and quiet breed. It is friendly with strangers and does well with kids, unless it is teased or provoked. Unfortunately, Saluki’s are common to die for cancer, mainly liver cancer. They cost about: $2,500.
