Why are jewels so expensive?

Gems and jewels are generally expensive and valuable and here is why. Most gems are expensive because of their chemical composition, simply, of what and how they are made.

For example, diamonds are 100% carbon and take decades to form. Coal is also 100% carbon, but it takes less time to make and can be made easily in laboratories. Another example is silver ores, they may not look very appealing, but how they are made is the main factor in their cost. Diamonds can also be made in labs now too, but because the price for them would go down if there were more, the scientists have made the decision that something valuable should stay valuable.

The most valuable mineral in the world is Rhodium.

Because of its rarity, this silver-white noble metal is the world's most expensive mineral. In second place comes Painite, then Diamond. Again, this is mainly because of the structure and time it takes to make them. However, their looks and what they could be made into are important as they are so expensive that only the rich can afford them and they would only want the most beautiful things for their money.
