Five things you didn’t know about KPOP

Bias

Kpop has many fans and if there are fans there is bound to be new terminology. Bias is just one of the millions of words that kpop fans have made their own, but it is definitely one of the most used. It’s simply a word used to describe your favourite kpop idol, you can have a bias in a group which is your favourite in that specific group or a bias in general which is your all time favourite.

Bias-wrecker

A bias-wrecker is obviously very similar to a bias since it literally has the word bias in it. It is an idol who is very close to being your bias but isn’t there just yet (Basically someone who wrecks/threatens your bias). There is chance that your bias-wrecker turns into your bias and that is very normal in the kpop community.

Trainee

Every Kpop idol has to go through a course, which can be from 6 months to several years, as a ‘Trainee.’ This is when the idols are preparing and practicing to actually ‘debut’ as a singer or group, and is mostly inside the training system of the agency or company to which they belong. They learn and practice basic skills in singing, dancing, or even rapping. After a certain time as a trainee, when the agency or company decides the trainee is ready, they decide to release (a.k.a. debut) them as a group or singer with their own song. At that point they become an idol/singer/group; they aren’t a ‘trainee’ anymore.

Kpop stars aren’t all korean!

In contrast to what most people might think, kpop stars aren’t all korean! As Kpop is a very popular business, and as the market is continuously increasing, many trainees take auditions and train in Korean agencies. They might partially be Korean, but it is not the only case. Lisa in Blackpink is from Thailand!

Kpop stars don’t only sing in korean

As ‘kpop’ stands for korean pop, many people may think that they would only sing in Korean which is not at all true. If you listen carefully there is very high change that you will hear English phrases here and there. Not only is there English, the languages can range from Japanese to Chinese too. There are also times where bands will make another version of the same song in a different language for example, Growl by EXO is originally in Korean but has been made into a chinese version too.(咆哮)
