2020 House Football Tournament

On the first school week of October, KS3, 4, and 5 were engaged in a fierce, but friendly competition in our school’s first ever House Football Tournament. In the words of Mr. Kennedy: “The standard of play, sportsmanship, participation and support over the whole week was amazing!” Our journalist, Julia (who participated in the tournament herself) decided to interview some of the players, to see their experiences and feedback on the tournament.

“I personally really enjoyed playing in the football tournament. The weather was great, and it was incredibly fun and engaging. These moments were definitely some of the most memorable moments from the last days of summer this year. As amazing as it was, the sizes of the teams were definitely a hard challenge we had to overcome. Sometimes there were a lot of people and deciding who should sub was quite hard (for me). Other times, there were not enough people, which caused playing, especially against such skilled opponents very hard. Overall, it was great, and I really hope that more people will come and join the game next year.”

Interviews from other participants:

Nastya (Year 10 Calypso) “I think it was a great opportunity to play with different ages and different genders altogether and get back into the habit of playing games with other people.”
Fruzsina (Year 10 Calypso) “I think it was a really good chance for us to finally have a match against somebody because it really put pressure on us, and we tried our best and it went really well.”
Matty (Year 8 Endeavour) “I really liked how everyone tried and wanted to play football and joined.”
Tony (Year 9 Endeavour) “I loved the teamwork in the football tournament.”
Daniel (Year 10 Endeavour) “I’m looking forward to winning the tournament next year!”
Henry (Year 11 Endeavour) “I think it was really good, but we played 6 a side on a pitch that was too small.”
Srinidhi (Year 10 Calypso) “I think it was really fun; and I think it was especially fun as a lot of matches that were supposed to happen in quarantine got cancelled, and it was a really good way to bring team spirit back. After so long of not seeing each other, it was really good to see and play with our friends.”
Vencel (Year 10 Calypso) “It was really good, and it was really fun to play with my friends and with my teammates. We won the whole championship, so I’m perfectly happy!”
