Equilibrium
Equilibrium is a new student-led Social Impact club. Our aim is to raise awareness and knowledge of the issues and debates surrounding equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Furthermore, our objectives are to contribute to a culture of sensitivity, mutual respect, and safety for all within our school community.
Equilibrium was created in February of 2021 by Dasha Rozhkova, a student in year 13, as a CAS project. Equilibrium’s initial club members were invited to join based on previous knowledge of students who were interested and passionate about topics surrounding equality, diversity, and inclusion. We joined this club to promote EDI values in our school community.
So far, Equilibrium has done a few things to further improve the school’s focus on equality, inclusion, and diversity. One of the first initiatives Equilibrium has focused on, is making sure topics about EDI can be addressed appropriately and properly through sensitive language, when students have questions surrounding these ideas. Hence, we aim to create safe spaces for students within the school where they can inquire and express their ideas, concerns, and views on topics of EDI safely and comfortably. Equilibrium has also carried out a survey where students responded with what equality, diversity and inclusion meant to them. This allowed us to see what the students within the school’s view was on EDI itself. We are planning to do more survey’s surrounding student’s opinions to see what students would like to see more of within the school. We launched a logo competition for all students shortly after we received the results of our survey. The winner of the competition was Jennifer Zheng, a year 12 student who designed the logo shown above. Additionally, for the first time we officially represented Equilibrium at the CCA fair and encouraged people to come and see what we do within our meetings and possibly joining the club. Currently, we are looking at data we have received from Mr. Walker based on student’s responses from the girls’ sports teams on the topic of representation and inclusivity of women in sports.
We generally hold meetings every other Friday in Ms. Rhodes’ room (B21) during lunchtime at 1:15. We are always open to conversation and if you would like further information, contact either Ms. Rhodes or any member of Equilibrium.
