How to Feng Shui Your Bedroom!

Why would you want to feng shui your bedroom?

If you were to feng shui one room in your whole house, it would have to be your bedroom. Why? Your bedroom is where you spend most your time, it is the most personal to you. It reflects you and who you are as a person. It is where you dream, cry in private, stress about school and most importantly, get a good night’s sleep. If your room is calming, relaxing and follows the rules of Feng shui, then it can affect these things positively. It can calm you down when stressed or upset; help you get ideas for stories, inspire your thoughts; and help you sleep peacefully to help you truly relax and let your worries go.

What is Feng shui:

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese tradition that helps bring out the calm and harmonic connection between man and nature. This is done by applying the rules of heaven and nature to a room or design of your choice. It is the arrangement and orientation that allow the flow of energy in a space to work.

Feng shui Rules:

1. Get a headboard:

A headboard denotes stability and support, in your life. It shows confidence and strength. The headboard should be stable, with no gaps or pattern or holes. Remember to fasten it on tightly!

2. Bed position:

  • Make sure that your bed is on the wall that faces the door, but not directly in line with door. Especially make sure your bed is not in the coffin position. The coffin position is when you open the door your feet point towards your bed. So, basically, your bed is directly in front of the door.

  • Put your headboard against a solid wall, making sure that there is enough space on all 3 sides of the bed.

  • Try not to place your bed against a wall with a toilet or bathroom on the opposite side.

  • Make sure that there is space on both sides of the bed, to put a bedside table. The bedside tabels must be the symetrical, including a stand-up lamp. They must be neat and tidy.

3. Bed clutter

Get rid of everything you have under your bed or place it somewhere else. All that clutter is depriving you of sleep. Shoes under your bed can make you feel like you are moving rather than resting; luggage can make you feel like you’re always on the go, and that you’re not quite home. It would be best to have no storage at all under your bed but if you must, it is best to have sleep-related items such as, pillows, blanket and more.

4. Get rid of electronics

Electronics disturb your circadian rhythm and sleep; they create EMFs in your room. EMF stands for electronic and magnetic field. It is created by powerlines and electronics and affects your wellbeing and influences our quality of sleep. They destroy important healing energy. It would be best to get an alarm clock and read books, instead of looking at YouTube. If you want Netflix go downstairs and if you need to do homework, remove your laptop when you are finished.

5. Calming lighting, close the door

Lighting is important as it relaxes you, and makes the room feel stress free. The best type of lighting to have is dimmed. The best two ways to create this calming, relaxing, dimmed lighting; is to get a dimmer or turn the lights off and instead use candles. At night close the door, it shuts you away from the stress of everyday life. It makes you feel protected and safe, creating an atmosphere of tranquillity.

6. Colours

The colours really depend on your personalities, well the little splashes of colour. The background colours on the wall and floors should be natural, skin tones. The floors made of wood and other natural materials. The other colours that you would have on your art and pillows, blankets and more. If you want a little drama in your room and splashes of red. If you want your room to have a healing and calming atmosphere, then add colours such as blues and greens.

7. Books

Everyone loves books, but they can deprive you of sleep. You don’t need to take them all out of your room. You can keep your book on the side of your bed or a few on shelf, but if you have a whole stack of books it is best to take them out. Books are active energy and can make us restless. They can keep us awake in excitement as they play with our minds about what is inside or the different adventures the characters take. My advice would be to create a whole feature in your hall… of books.

Remember, these are suggestions not forceful rules. Feng Shui may not be your style, your design. You may have a passion for Industrial, shabby chic, contemporary and many more. But if you like peaceful, harmonic designs then try this out. Remember you can always change it back, because a room is your canvas, and it will forever be your canvas.
