Vampire Bats Are Spooky Black Cats
I always thought that vampire bats were real vampires, and that they can turn into vampires. However, I found that I’m half wrong and half right.
To begin, Vampire bats are found in large caves, tree hollows, mines and abandoned buildings from Central and South American countries. Vampire bats live up to nine years in the wild and up to 20 years in captivity. Strange, right? I thought the wild is the animal’s habitat.
Here is the part where I was correct that Vampire Bats are real vampires! They can suck blood not only from animals or other creatures, but also humans! And after they suck it and bring it to their caves or territory, if there is a vampire around that hasn’t eaten for 1 day, they pass the blood or spit it into that bat’s mouth! Gross and amazing! Imagine a vampire bat feeding his/her mother instead of her. These vampire bats have no choice, if they don’t eat some blood for 1 and a half day, the 2nd day is their death.
Whenever you want to go and see a vampire bat make sure not to use a huge amount of light near them, especially when they’re asleep, because that can get them in a temper and you know what that means...
Have you ever wondered if vampire bats can do things that humans do? Well, vampire bats can walk, run and jump without using their wings (and eat). This is something special about them, just like vampires! But the bit where I was wrong is that they can turn into vampires when they actually can’t.
Vampire bats have very strong hind legs and a special thumb that helps them take off after feeding. Each night, vampire bats drink about half of their body weight in blood! And you know, if they can't find blood for two nights in a row, they will die.
Overall, I find these vampire bats really interesting and sometimes gross too but the fact that they are vampires really creeps me out to seeing one live.
